The 2012 Essay Contest Winners were celebrated at the annual potluck dinner for the Pomona Valley UNA-USA at Pilgrim Place. The program included the Claremont High School winners in the annual High school essay contest: first place finisher Jahnavi Curlin, second place Paul Hurley, and third place winner Michaela Moss. Each was presented a cash prize for their outstanding efforts. Thanks to the University Club of Claremont for the grant that covers the essay awards

This year's Pomona Valley UNA-USA High School Essay Contest focused on the United Nations role in response to the Arab Spring, and asked students to tackle the challenge of how can the United States best employ the United Nations to assist the people in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Syria, Yemen, and the region of the Arab Spring.
